While Mr. Herlihy does not handle limited scope engagements, there are a number of lawyers who do offer this service for individuals who are willing and able to represent themselves in a family law matter, but need advice and guidance from a lawyer on a limited basis. Limited scope representation is usally a flat-fee service that may include document review, coaching, assisting with negotiations, and limited representation in court.

TexasLawHelp.org is dedicated to providing free, reliable legal information to low-income Texans. Here, you will find guides and resources for divorces, modifications, custody, and more. There is also information on legal events and clinics.

Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid is a nonprofit organization that provides free legal services to low-income residents. To qualify for free legal services from TRLA, an applicant must meet the income, asset, and immigration requirements. They prioritize cases with recent abuse, sexual assault, and stalking.

Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas

Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas (VLS) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization which exists to help low-income clients access the civil justice system by providing volunteer attorneys who donate free legal advice and representation, and by supporting and training those attorneys.

Austin Community Law Center

The core of ACLC’s mission is to make legal services radically more affordable. They charge sliding-scale fees based on the client's income, below what most other attorneys charge.


Free Legal Answers

Texas Free Legal Answers is a virtual legal advice clinic in which qualifying users post civil legal questions at no cost to be answered by pro bono attorneys licensed in their state.
